NASA Project

Students just completed their chapter 5 test. Today (Wed), students will begin watching the movie “Apollo 13″. After watching the movie, students will be working on a research/poster project involving NASA. Students will not have homework during this time since the project will be done in the computer lab, but we will be moving on to chapter 6 after this project. Looking over vocabulary will help.

Upcoming Test

The test for chapter 5 on Force will be on Tuesday, October 28. It will cover all of chapter 5 vocabulary, speed, velocity and acceleration calculations. Review worksheets will be given out on Friday and discussed on Monday. I’ve also attached a PDF of a sample speed problem and acceleration problem. Click on the word speed below to view them.

Practice Quiz

Below are links to a practice quiz and the solutions. I have shown work the way that I expect students to show their work. This practice quiz will be VERY similar to the real quiz tomorrow.
(The first file is a Word 2007 file. If you do not have 2007 it may not open. The second file is a PDF with the answers to the problems on the Word file. I’ll try to remember to save both as PDF files next time!)

QUIZ Thursday 9/24

There will be a quiz on Thursday covering metric conversions and density. Students will be given several problems where they will have to convert from one metric unit to another. They will also be asked to calculate density, mass, and volume using the formula d = m/v.

Wilson’s Solar Panels

Wyandotte Public Schools has a link to our photovoltaic panels. We are very excited about the panels and the website. It includes a webcam, and graphs that show how much energy is being produced, how much money they save in energy costs, and how many kilograms of carbon dioxide they keep from our atmosphere. http://weather.wyandotte.org/wilson.html Enjoy!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! I’m looking forward to a great school year. I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am to be back in the science department full time.
I will try to update this site frequently. If you want to leave a comment or have a question, it is probably best to email me at brovong@wy.k12.mi.us or to call me but feel free to leave a comment. In the future, I will be using this site to post photos and class projects. Your child will be bringing home a permission slip with more information about this.

Name Change

You may have noticed (or not) that my blog has changed names from “Wilson Middle School Science and Technology Blog” to just science. I will be back to teaching all science classes next school year. (8th grade) While I’ll certainly miss teaching the computer classes, I am very excited to get back into the science department.
8th grade students: Have a great summer and good luck next fall at RHS!
7th grade students: Also have a great summer and I will see many of you in the fall for science.
